St. Patrick’s Day
We got excited about going to our local St. Patrick’s Day Parade. It brought back memories for me of making a few bob polishing my brothers’ boots and buttons when they marched in the parade as part of the army reserve. But that was long long ago.
I was hoping for some giant puppets and some great street entertainment. Unfortunately many of the local businessmen look on the parade as an opportunity for free advertising. They stick a balloon on their van and call it a parade float.
So the parade consisted of lots of vans. There were FOUR trucks from DrainVac and one enterprising bloke with four bales of fence wire and 20 fencing posts on the back of his truck. How exciting! At one point I thought I was looking at a traffic jam.
But the kids did enjoy the razzamatazz and the noise and the colour. And that’s what matters at this stage in my life. Happy kids – happy me.
